SOLO EXHIBITION, ØYNA NORWAY

MAY - SEPT 2022

I am truly excited to announce my solo exhibition Balancing at Øyna cultural landscape hotel in Norway running from May - September 2022 is open. This show consists of thirty plus paintings and mono-prints hung within Øyna, a unique space that literally grows out of the hillsides of Inderøy, in superb Scandi style.

Exhibiting at Øyna is extra special to me as it is near the small Norwegian town where I grew up. After years of living away and growing as an artist, I feel excited to able to bring my art home.

Øyna was by Fodors travel guide voted one of the 101 must visit hotels in the world in 2021, with only 15 of these hotels being situated in Europe.

Balancing : an act we all do most days in everyday life.

In my work, I aim to find the balance between chaos and control. This balancing act creates a certain energy whilst I paint, which I try to harness by being present in the moment. This energy gives form to the more fluid and impulsive strokes and coloured areas of my work.

By continuing to explore themes of humanity found in my previous work, the black lines in my paintings can be seen as simplified human forms interacting. In my work, the arms of humanity are weak and rigid in the form of a thin stitched line. This can be seen as a comment on the need to strengthen our arms to meet our collective responsibility to look after each other and the world we inhabit. The black circles in my paintings represent moments of clarity and focus. These are thoughts and feelings I balance on a daily basis.

What you see in my paintings is off course totally up to you. Some people only see colours and shapes and that’s totally fine. Others see an emotional journey with the spots marking significant points on this journey. My work has also been described as layered interior landscapes. The choice is totally yours and is the unique perspective power of art.
